Course Standards

Overview

CMT's Course Standards Software allows for districts to define and maintain a standards based grading system. No longer are students simply given a traditional letter or numeric grade for a subject area, but they can be graded based on standards and benchmarks.

The Basics

The software contains multiple programs that allows for the maintenance of all the standard pieces (i.e. the descriptions, the categories and what courses they are attached to) along with a history file, or transcript, of all the standards and scores students have received. The software also contains reports for analyzing standards and report cards. Users can input standards using green screen entry screens or a web based standards entry screen is also included with the software.

The setup includes maintenance programs into which the district has the ability to maintain the subject areas for which standards will be defined (i.e. Mathematics and Reading). After defining the subject areas, users define a grade level, Strand, Content Standard, Benchmark and description for each standard. For example, the following might exist within the Mathematics subject area:

Subject: Mathematics
Grade Level: K
Strand: I
Content Standard: 11
Benchmark: 1
Description: Counts by ones to 70.

The maintenance program containing the above information also contains a field to map the district's standards to the State standards if they are different.

Green Screen maintenance programs are included for entering standards by course or student. Once standards are entered, they can be posted to a standards transcript and maintained if necessary.

Following is a sample of the Web Grade Standards Entry.

Users choose Grading Worksheet and the Standard to be graded.

After selecting the course, the following entry screen appears. Each grade and comment has a pull down listing the available values. There's also a feature that allows for the same value to be entered for all students allowing mass entry.

Each student can also have additional comments entered by selecting the A/C button to the right.

Following is a sample of the report card that is generated from the software.
